“Mamugon”

“Mamugon” (to harvest, especially rice plants) is one of this
folk songs generally unwritten with unknown compositor had been pass on from
our forefathers to our times. I have heard and knew this (at least this
version) from my grandmother, Patricia Dela Cruz Tapayan, now 83 years old. The
song relates the story of a typical farmer harvesting in a rice field with its
dramatic story missing his/her died mother.
Mamugon ako
mamugon
Sang gantang ro
suhoe sa maghapon
Alas dose ako
pakan-on
Oras eon nga ako
paulion.
Pag-abot sa
baeay
Mangayo ako it
humay
Tinuro ako ni
Tatay
Sa eusong ro
paeay.
Alinon ko ro
paeay?
Eawas ko hay
nagapangabudlay;
Kung buhi eang
si Nanay
Makaon ako,
mapahuway.
